“If you are reading this you are sexy as fuck and you should know it.”

- Salt Dog Slim’s Women’s bathroom

If You Are Reading This explores bathroom graffiti as a unique form of anonymous communication. Across cities, venues, and generations, bathroom walls have become spaces where strangers leave messages for other strangers; offering advice, affection, humour, frustration, confessions, and moments of vulnerability to an audience they will never know.

Developed through a series of photographic posters combining portraits with found writing, the project considers these markings not simply as graffiti, but as evidence of an ongoing collective conversation. Unlike most forms of communication, there is no profile, no identity, and no guarantee that a message will be read. Or if the original writer would even see a response. Yet people continue to leave traces of themselves behind, responding to one another across days, months, and sometimes years.

By bringing together fragments of these exchanges, If You Are Reading This highlights the bathroom wall as a rare social space where anonymity and intimacy coexist. The work reflects on the human desire to connect, participate, and be understood, asking how moments of recognition can emerge between people who remain strangers to one another.
